7 Quick Takes Friday

Happy 3rd birthday to our beloved Spencer! Our little boy turns a big 3 today, and we are so blessed to have him in our lives. All the way from his unexpected early birth until now, it’s been a crazy journey that he braves with us newbies to parenting. We love you Spencer!

I finished Spencer’s sweater. I’m so proud of myself! It fits well enough; in the first photo I the neck opening is too large. I’ve since sewn it closed more. It’s meant to be a baggy type of sweater. IMG_1117

This was too big around the neckIMG_1130Fixed it and left the yarn ends out in case I needed to adjust it moreIMG_1138Now it fits!

Cassia is teething. Therefore, sleep is inevitably disrupted a lot more during the night. Therefore, I am a tired mama most days. Couple that with knitting and watching too much Community at night and I just set myself up for disaster after disaster after disaster :S.

4.

We went to the Saskatoon WinterShine Festival’s “Warm the Heart” Professional Soup CookOff. We sampled 10 different soups and cast our 3 votes (it was $5 for all you can eat samples, bread included). We had a great time. I loved the minestrone, and my second favourite was a tomato & cashew soup, which won people’s choice first place. Totally doing this again next year!

Delicious!

5.

IMG_1132 IMG_1131I did it. I made the peanut butter and jelly sandwich cake for Spencer’s birthday. When given a sample of just some cake cut-offs, he spat it out. When given the peanut butter icing, he licked the spoon nearly clean. So we’ll see what happens. If he doesn’t eat it, next year we’re giving up on the cake and doing a big brownie or a pie or something.

The cake process became slightly complicated when I realised I had only one square cake pan. This is why the bottom is not as ‘bread’y looking as the top. oh well. Can’t win everything.

My mom is treating Andy and I to a play tonight for a date night. I’m excited! I think the last time I went to a play (well, it was a dance…Alice in Wonderland by the Winnipeg Ballet Co.) was in Ottawa. Looking back on my life, the arts are not really where I tend to spend a lot of money. But crafting? Oh yes. Pass me my knitting needles, please.

Tomorrow we are hoping to go test drive a few different cars! Wish us luck!

Loving God through my family, friends, and interactions in my world.
