Roy Financial Mayor’s Walk for Charity

Hello and welcome to my first blog post on this site! Woohoo!

This site doesn’t have much yet, so bear with it until it develops more. Hopefully by advertising that we have a website and having people check it out will motivate us to create something that looks cool and provides info as needed.

On that note, if you were checking out a website of a friend’s, what would you want to see on it? Just to give us an idea of what other people might be looking for as well.

Andy’s telling me that you can comment on the blog portion, but you may have to register before you can leave a comment. Check it out and let us know. Or something.

In any case, I am looking for pledges for a charity walk (Roy Financial Mayor’s Walk for Charity). Andy and I are raising money for the Star of the North Retreat Centre here in St. Albert. Andy and I currently live on the premises – we do security lock up for the centre every night and set up meeting rooms for the various groups that use the rooms and take retreats here. It serves the greater St. Albert community, as Alcoholics Anonymous uses it for their weekly meetings, AMA Impact uses it for their weekend workshop for those who’ve been caught driving intoxicated, Engaged Encounter uses it, Grandmother’s Guild, and many, many other groups of various sizes. It is a retreat house started by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and though lay people run the centre in its day to day operations, it is the community of the Oblates (lay associates and ordained) who vision for the centre to provide programs that meet the needs of the catholic community.

I am excited to be able to do this, as I have seen the direct results of last year’s charity walk be implemented here in the centre. I see the benefits that have come from the money raised and how it helps to improve and maintain the cleanliness, comfortable atmosphere, and practical usage of the facilities.

If you are willing to part with a little money to help the centre continue to serve the community, I would greatly appreciate your support in this. The Star has offered to issue tax deductible receipts for pledges of $20 or more as long as you provide your name and full address. You can send cheques made out to ‘Roy Financial Mayor’s Walk for Charity’ (long winded, I know) to:
3A St. Vital Avenue,
St. Albert, AB T8N 1K1

Again, myself and the Star would greatly appreciate any and all support. Prayers are equally as helpful (though it’s the cash that’ll win me a prize at the walk ;). We will be walking on Saturday June 21st.

Jane
