Birthday Celebrations

Finally, we were able to celebrate this little boy’s second birthday. Not as feasty as it would have been on Wednesday, but we had a good time none-the-less! Andy decided chili-cheese dogs were the appropriate meal. I decided on cake for dessert. I did a train cake, not as well as I imagined (I also imagined I had much un-Spencered time as well, though), and I forgot to put the oreos on for the wheels. Oh well. He enjoyed the whipped cream, but didn’t seem to eat much of the cake. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

We were blessed to have Walter & Sherry, Andy’s bro & sis-in-law, join us for supper, which helped to make it much more of a celebration than with just us as immediate family. They happened to bring along a superb gift for Spud, who was quite thrilled with his new drill set. Andy and I were a little unnerved at how easily he figured everything out…I’m kinda hoping that he learned a lot of it at daycare, as that makes that jump seem a little more reasonable.

In other news, Andy and I are going on a couples retreat at Queen’s House next weekend, and I am very much looking forward to it! Andy’s parents have generously said ‘yes’ to coming up and watching Spence for the weekend. While not our first weekend away from the little man, it is our first ‘in town’ weekend away from him. I think they’ll have a splendid time together, especially if the weather keeps us nice like this (high of -1 today! great weather for venturing outside!)

Spencer helped make his whipped cream icing. He actually did more than just eat off the beater: he helped hold the thing and move it around the bowl.
