Disappointed
Hello all,
This is largely a rant.
So I finished downloading the first six episodes of the ninth Stargate SG-1 season this afternoon in high, high hopes (even though I knew season eight would be very hard to top), and I just finished watching the first four of them. In four episodes, nothing has really happened except that a new enemy has been introduced: the Ori (or something) who seem to be almost exactly what Daniel was trying and wanted to be when he was Ascended – those who share the knowledge of Ascention- though these new characters also demand unwavering, blind worship much as the Goa’uld did when they reigned the galaxy. There is also a new character who is full of lust and shallow development who I find to be all too unnecessary for this show and does not add any of the depth that was diminished when Jack O’Neill and Sam Carter left the Stargate scene. I like the new leader of SG-1, he seems to be okay. I can handle the new general, he also shows potential. This Vala, however, I am finding useless to the plot development (assuming that there is one, because I’m having trouble seeing it) and a hindrance to plot progression. The fourth episode, indeed, was completely redundant and a waste of my time because it was spent on her and her useless half-assed character that led everyone in a truly pointless circle.
This is going to be one of those nostalgia things for me, I’m afraid. And did they hire new screen writers too? Story writers? They’ve got us almost nowhere in four episodes. Grrrr. Okay, that’s my rant. Travis – have you seen any of the ninth yet? Marc? Andrew?
Oh, on a side note, I actually watched the last part of the BC/Sask football game this afternoon, and I just want to say that there was no way that Sask should even be disappointed with their loss. I mean, isn’t that the closest they’ve had to tasting a win in…ohhh…I dunno…it’s been a long while, hasn’t it? But I mean, could you really expect BC to break their winning streak over Sask? ;). No, no. I didn’t think so either. Yes, you can always hope. Maybe that’s why you’re all so positive all the time….always hoping….:D. Okay, I’ll stop. I don’t even watch it regularly, so this can only be taken as half-heartedly informed.
On another note, I’m going to bed now. I hope someone else out there is also disappointed with the ninth season…I’d like someone to rant with about this.
Take care, y’all!
-Jane
*Edit: after doing some late-night surfing, it seems that this Vala character is only around until after episode five, as Amanda Tapping, who plays Sam Carter, was on maternity leave for the first five episodes, and then the Vala-person will be gone. *sigh of relief*. There is still hope.
