Easter Sunday

Rejoice, heavenly powers! Sing, choirs of angels!
Exult, all creation around God’s throne!
Jesus Christ, our King, is risen!
Sound the trumpet of salvation!

Rejoice, O earth, in shining splendor,
radiant in the brightness of your King!
Christ has conquered! Glory fills you!
Darkness vanishes for ever!

Rejoice, O Mother Church! Exult in glory!
The risen Saviour shines upon you!
Let this place resound with joy,
echoing the mighty song of all God’s people!

 
Christ the Lord has risen! My favourite parts of Easter: Exsultet and the Easter Sequence, which I share with you this joyful day of the Resurrection!

O sons and daughters, let us sing!
The King of heaven, the glorious King,
who on this day rose triumphing.
Alleluia!

That Easter morn, at break of day,
the faithful women went their way
to seek the tomb where Jesus lay.
Alleluia!

An angel clad in white they see,
who sat and spoke unto the three
“Your Lord does go to Gallilee.”
Alleluia!

That night the apostles met in fear;
amidst them came their Lord most dear,
and said, “My peace be on all here.”
Alleluia!

On this most holy day of days,
to God your hearts and voices raise,
in laud and jubilee and praise.
Alleluia!
